• OUR CURRICULUM

Our early childhood education program utilizes the Tools of the Mind resource.  Our goal is to focus on the whole child, including learning opportunities in mathematics, language and literacy, science, health and physical development, creative arts, executive functions, and social emotional development.

The Grand Island Public Schools Preschool Program utilizes a play-based, active learning approach. Children have direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events, and ideas.

Classrooms follow a predictable sequence of events known as the daily routine. The daily routine includes the following components:

    • Greeting time
    • Large group/small group time
    • Play planning and make believe play, work time, clean-up time
    • Breakfast (morning classes) and lunch (afternoon classes)
    • Indoor/outdoor gross motor time (Preschoolers will play outside as weather permits and if the "feels like" temperature is 20 degrees or above.)

The inclusion of preschoolers with differing abilities and from diverse cultures enhances learning opportunities for all children about caring, acceptance, and interdependence with others.
