Welcome to the Learning Links page of the Westridge website. The resources listed in this section will help students and parents find ways to learn at home. You will find multiple online resources to help with Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Technology and other subjects. 

We hope you find these resources useful. Each link will take you off the GIPS website. Our curriculum experts around the district have helped select these links. However, if you find a link that isn't working or has changed, we apologize.

BrainPOP | BrainPOP Jr. | BrainPOP Español | BrainPOP ESL
Founded in 1999, BrainPOP creates animated, curricular content that engages students, supports educators, and bolsters achievement. These award-winning online educational resources include BrainPOP Jr. (K-3), BrainPOP, BrainPOP Español , and, for English language learners, BrainPOP ESL. BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. are also home to GameUp, a free educational games portal for the classroom.

Live Homework Help from Tutor.com is available with your library card number. Teachers online through this company can help with homework, but not give the answers.

For students just beginning Algebra to students already deeply immersed in it who need a little review on a topic or two, this site shows step-by-step how to attack all the important algebraic concepts.

Khan Academy
Khan Academy is full of helpful videos explaining all sorts of math topics and other school subjects, too. When you login you see a home screen and your child can even take a math pre-test to see where he/she is starting.

Patrick JMT
The "JMT" in Patrick JMT stands for "Just Math Tutorials." Similar to Khan Academy, this top 10 math website has clear math videos on many math topics. Math Levels: 3rd-12th+ (arithmetic through Calculus) 


Tween Tribune
TeenTribune, TweenTribune,TTEspañol and TTJunior – the daily news sites for kids, tweens and teens – where you'll find the most compelling, relevant and interesting news for 55 million kids in K-12 and their 3.5 million teachers.

Newsela is an innovative way for students to build reading comprehension with nonfiction that's always relevant: daily news.

Flashcard Stash
Flashcard Stash allows you to create and customize your own digital flashcards. You can create flashcards with anything, such as dates for History class, vocabulary for French class, or words for the SAT.


Maps 101
Maps101 is a services for K-12 schools with the purpose of supplementing and complimenting traditional history, social studies and geography curriculum materials. Maps101.com is a web-based interactive database of teacher lesson plans, geography tools, online learning games, dynamic interactive map modules and over 4,000 viewable and printable history, thematic, reference, outline, current events and animated maps.


The Why Files
The Why Files was created at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the auspices of National Institute for Science Education with support from the National Science Foundation. It is currently funded through the Graduate School, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Each week, we bring you a new story on the science behind the news.

Sex Ed Standards
Grand Island Public Schools have adopted the National Sexuality Education Standards.  2015-16 is the first year students will have this curriculum. 


World Book Online Encyclopedia
An online Encyclopedia offering general knowledge on a variety of subjects both in English and Spanish.

Grolier Encyclopedia
A multimedia, online encyclopedia offering articles, videos, and maps on a variety of topics.

The Library Commission is the host organization for the Nebraska Center for the Book (NCB), a state affiliate of the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress.
