Grand Island Public Schools is committed to preparing students for the variety of opportunities they will encounter whether that be in the classroom, in the arts, in a sport, or in a professional setting. Our students deserve to be confident AND prepared. At GIPS, we advocate for our students to "Dress for Success".
Below are a few updated guidelines the district has provided for appearance expectations while at school.
Attire Guidelines:
- Freedom of expression with respect to updated apparel guidelines.
- Apparel must comply with the health and safety codes and not detract from learning.
- For all students, mid-thigh to top of chest are to be covered while also concealing all undergarments.
- District required masks, approved religious attire, or protective headwraps are approved; At this time - due to safety - hoods, caps, bandanas, durags, etc. are not approved.
- Apparel that is advertising or advocating for controlled or illegal substances, or promoting a hostile environment will not be permitted.
- For grades 6-12, school issued ID shall be made visible on the upper torso.
Our goal is to help our students feel ready to engage in all the endeavors a given day may bring. Any questions regarding Dress for Success guidelines may be shared with a teacher or your building principal. GIPS is happy to provide support in our joint eorts to empower students to be condent and prepared.

Cell Phones and personal electronic devices (airpods, etc.) are not permitted in the classroom. During school hours, all cell phones and personal electronic devices must be in backpacks, pockets, and out of sight. Accommodations will be made for students that require a personal electronic device for medical assistance.
