This course is designed for the individual with an exceptional work ethic and an advanced knowledge of strength training. Requirements include participation in Islander Power, coaching/instructor recommendations, certification of basic movement competence and a history of training compliance. See the four following rows for more detailed placement criteria. If you have specific questions please refer to Coach Williams and assigned counselor. For incoming freshmen and those new to the district: Commit to compete in one or more sports during the upcoming school year. Attend the weight room orientation and training session in May of preceeding year. Earn an efficiency rating of at least 85% during summer training sessions Must be certified on all core lifts at the conclusion of summer training. Recommendation for placement by a member of the strength training staff with input from individual head coaches. Athlete and parents/guardians must sign the strength training participation contract. For sophmores, juniors, and seniors (first-time enrolled): Recommendation for placement by a member of the strength training staff with input from individual head coaches. Earn an efficiency rating of at least 85% during summer training sessions. Must be certified on all core lifts at the conclusion of summer training. A student must pass Beginning Weight Training students with a proficient grade (A or B) before moving on to Advanced Weight Training. For students enrolling in the class beyond one year: Recommendation for placement by a member of the strength training staff. Previously passed Advanced Weight Training with a proficient grade (A or B). Successfully complete the following in previous Advanced Weight Training experience: all Six Trait Writing assignments; the semester project; semester portfolio. Priority for class placement will be given to students in the following manner: Class standing; seniors first, then juniors, then sophomores, with frosh last. Multi-sport athletes ranked by the number of sports the individual participates in (three-sport ahead of two-sport, ahead of single-sport). Participation in after school and summer Islander Power programs. Prior record of exemplary attendance in a weight training class(es). 9-12 Summer: Information available in GISH activities office
