Senior High FBLA students place at state competition in Kearney

Islanders are continuing to make waves and earn top recognition across the state.

Six students represented Grand Island Senior High at the Nebraska Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference on April 3-5, 2023 in Kearney. 

The State Leadership Conference allows high school students an opportunity to compete in a wide range of categories including journalism, public speaking, coding & programming, and more.

Two of the Islanders who competed, Kevin Parra Vazquez and Alex Phelan, were named state champion in the Network Design category.

Scott Fox, GISH FBLA sponsor and Information Technology teacher, said it was great to see his students excel.

"It was awesome to see Alex and Kevin apply what they have learned and know about data networks and end up being the best in Nebraska when it was all said and done," Fox said.

Fox said he is proud of his students for modeling the Islander way at the conference.

"All six FBLA competitors represented GISH very well at the State Leadership Conference in Kearney,” Fox said. “They were professional, enthusiastic, and serious about competing," he said.
