2024-25 Registration & Pre-School Updates

February 26th, 2024

Now that we are moving through the second half of the 2023-24 school year it is time to begin getting everything in place for next year.

One of the key pieces in that planning process for the school district is getting students registered.

To help figure out how many teachers will be needed at each grade level and in each school, we want to have an accurate count of the students who will be attending our schools. The online registration process opened on February 5th and runs through March 31st.

New and returning Grand Island Public Schools families may register their students at www.GIPS.org/registration

When we reach March 31st, we will set the number of sections for each grade level in all of our schools. We will then staff our buildings accordingly. Once the number of sections for each building have been determined — and those sections are filled — we can no longer accept students for those grades in that building.

Another notable update is adjustments we have made to our Preschool enrollment.  Here are key details to note regarding Preschool at Grand Island Public Schools:

  • Children living in the Grand Island Public Schools District and are 4 years old on or before July 31, 2024 or who will be 5 years old on or after August 1, 2024 are eligible to register for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Children who are 3 years old verified for special education services are also eligible to register.

  • Howard Elementary (previously a single all-day unit) will now offer two half-time units or classes (morning and afternoon).  This is the same instruction model we have had at all other district Preschool locations.

We will continue to enroll students who live in the district after the March 31st deadline. However, those students will have to be placed where we have open sections for their grade level. So, in some cases a student who is enrolled late may have to attend class in a building that is not as close as their neighborhood school.

Because the district will be significantly reducing the transportation provided next year, it is more important than ever for students to be placed where it is easiest for them to get to school. So, we ask all of our new and returning GIPS families to please register your children as soon as possible.

Thank you for taking care of your part in this critical piece of the school planning process.

We are looking forward to making the 2024-25 school year a great one!
