"The Magic of Holiday Concerts" - Superintendent Holiday Message

The Holiday Season is clearly upon us.

There are lots of twinkling lights everywhere we go, sale flyers abound in print and online, and the sound of music fills the air. I enjoy the lights, try to avoid the shopping, and have had multiple chances to soak up the music.

One of the really fun parts of this time of year is the holiday concerts we have taking place all across the district.

Most evenings I get to take in several concerts and it is a really great way to experience the growth of our students over time. Within an elementary concert you get to see how Kindergarten students have learned to join their voices, not necessarily in complete harmony, but in a way that songs are recognizable. Then you get to see the harmony grow, and solo work added, and dance moves introduced as you move up the grade levels. You truly see academic growth showcased.

In the middle and high school concerts you get to see not only development of vocal talents but also refinement in the playing of instruments and the performance of choreography. In the past couple of weeks I have got to see some very impressive performances by students in all of our grades.

Thank you to all of our parents who encourage their children to participate and to put in the practice time to grow their skills. Thank you to our staff members who help students to fine tune their talents. Finally a bit thank you to our students who are learning and growing through their commitment to the visual and performing arts.

Our GIPS students have many great ways to develop skills and expand their understanding of the world around them. We are thankful for our outstanding staff members who help them grow and for the families that support their efforts.
