"Be Here. Belong" in 2026-27 at GIPS - Message from the Superintendent

A message from Superintendent Matt Fisher (also published in the Grand Island Independent on 7.23.2026):
 

In a few short weeks we will be welcoming our families back for another year of partnering to create the best possible environment for your children to grow and learn.  We look forward to having a great year together.

One of the great pieces of being in the education business is having the opportunity to work side by side with families to ensure the best possible life for our students.  Our staff works really hard to provide great growth opportunities for our students.  At the same time, we fully recognize that the impact that a child’s family has on them is much greater.  To really lock in the best outcomes for children we strive to have a strong working relationship between families and schools.  

One of our key focuses as a school district for this coming year is to promote a real sense of belonging.  

We want our staff to know that they belong and that the work they do is valued.  In turn we want staff members to work to create a sense of belonging for every one of our students.  We also want that sense of belonging to extend to the families of our students.  We need families to be our partners so we need to have them feel welcomed into that role.

Ultimately there needs to be a sense of belonging across our whole community. 

Our schools are a reflection of the community and are governed by the people of the community.  To have the most successful schools possible we want to have everyone in the community to feel a sense of belonging and take pride in our schools.  

Please join Grand Island Public Schools in creating great learning opportunities for our young people as we move through the year ahead.
