Information about Today's Press Conference

Grand Island Public Schools will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation. At this point, we are planning to have school.

However, as our top priority is the safety of our students, staff and, in this case, the greater community, we know more precautions are needed. We are taking extra steps to clean our schools even more than typical.

We are asking parents to keep students at home if they have any of these situations:

Travel in the past 14 days to no-travel countries or at-risk areas defined by the CDC (map)
Exhibiting the symptoms (fever over 100, restricted breathing, shortness of breath, cough)
Exposure to someone with the virus or who has been quarantined

If a student meets any of these conditions, we ask they self quarantine at home for 14 days to help prevent the spread of the virus. We have a form for parents to fill out on our website. We ask parents to begin filling this form out today so we can plan ahead for next week.

We are also actively taking these steps:

Non-essential activities are canceled until further notice
School-sponsored before- and after-school student activities can continue until future notice
Evening school events are canceled until further notice (family fun nights, etc.)
Non-school events held in our schools are canceled until further notice (this includes scout meetings)
Travel allowed for NSAA-sanctioned events only
No out-of-school travel for students or staff
No large assemblies for students
No outside visitors allowed inside schools
Increased time and opportunities for students to effectively wash hands
Increased cleaning and disinfection measures

We continue to work with the other local school districts and our community health and government officials. This is a very fluid situation and changes occur rapidly. We will continue to give updates as we can via our website, social media and calls to parents.

If you have specific questions, please reach out to Mr. Bishop or submit a question via Let's Talk.
Thanks for your help in keeping our community safe during this unprecedented global pandemic event.
