September Notes from the Principal

Our school year is off to a great start!  Enrollment is currently around 224 students.  The Knickrehm team is working hard to ensure that each and every student has a successful year.  We appreciate you partnering with us in reaching this goal.  If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let us know.  We, in turn, will do our best to communicate with you.  This monthly newsletter is one way for us to keep you up to date on upcoming school events and reminders.  This and other information is also avsilable on our website

Grand Island Public Schools will be using the testing systems called CPAA (K-2) and MAP (3-5).  During the month of September, students at Knickrehm will take their first round of assessments.  These are not high-stakes assessments but will give teachers a clearer picture of each student' s instructional levele and help guide instruction throughout the school year.  Please talk with your child about the importance of doing his/her best on the test.

We ask for you to be extremely careful when picking up and dropping off students.  During pick up and drop off, please pay particular attention to the posted signs' instructions.  The lane closest to the school is for pick up and drop off only.  The second lane is to drive thru.  When picking up or dropping off students, please pull up to the curb and allow them to get in and out of the car safely.  Please DO NOT park, and leave your car unattended.  If you need to park and get out of your car, then we ask that you park in a parking stall.  Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe.

It is important for students to be a school on time!  Breakfast is served from 7:20-7:45 everyday.  Announcements in the gym start promptly at 7:55.  Students need to be in the gym sitting with their classes by that time.  Regular and prompt school attendance is very important for school success.  School dismisses at 3:30 except on Wednesdays when it is 2:00.

When scheduling appointments for your child try to set them up outside of school hours.  This is important so that they do not miss valuable instruction time.
