Islander Jazz Band Festival Feb. 12

The 2018 Islander Jazz Band Festival will fill the GISH Auditorium with the sounds of jazz all day Monday, Feb. 12.

In all, 14 student groups from nine schools will perform for a panel of professional judges, who will work with the bands after each performance and offer advice, coaching and individual instruction.

The three judges are Troy Ehmke, Hastings Public Schools; Dr. Marc LaChance, Hastings College; and Phill Parker, Hastings College.

The bands will represent the following schools: Aurora, Centennial, Fremont, Hastings, Hastings St. Cecilia, Norfolk, Northwest, Waverly and Grand Island Senior High. Aurora will also have a middle school band.

The performances begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., with a short break at noon for lunch.

  • 9 a.m.: Hastings St. Cecilia
  • 9:30 a.m.: Hastings High School
  • 10 a.m.: Aurora High School
  • 10:30 a.m.: Waverly High School
  • 11 a.m.: Aurora High School
  • 11:30 a.m.: Centennial High School
  • 1 p.m.: Aurora Middle School
  • 1:30 p.m.: Fremont High School
  • 2 p.m.: Norfolk High School
  • 2:30 p.m.: Fremont High School
  • 3 p.m.: Norfolk High School
  • 3:30 p.m.: Grand Island Senior High Jazz I
  • 4 p.m.: Grand Island Northwest
  • 4:30 p.m.: Grand Island Senior High Jazz II

The entire day is free and open to the public.
