Grand Island Public Schools has an ongoing need for Special Education Paraeducator Substitutes, Nutrition Services Substitutes, Custodian Substitutes and Nurse Substitutes.   


Assistant Custodian 

Starr Elementary 

 8 hours per day (3:00 pm-11:00 pm)/12 month position

Previous custodial experience preferred.

District paid health and dental insurance.

The wage is $13.38 per hour after the training period,(includes .34 shift differential).

Position closes 4:30 pm May 31, 2022.


Assistant Custodian

Newell Elementary

 4 hours per day (4:00 pm-8:00 pm)/12 month position

Previous custodial experience preferred.

The wage is $13.38 per hour after the training period, (includes .34 shift differential).

Position closes 4:30 pm May 27, 2022.


Assistant Custodians 

O'Connor Learning Center,  Seedling Mile Elementary, Wyandotte Learning Center

 4 hours per day (3:00 pm-7:00 pm)/12 month positions

Information Technology Technician

for 7 Elementary Schools

8 hours per day/12 month position

The Information Technology Technician provides exceptional customer service and technical expertise through on-site visits,  inbound calls, or other electronic input such as Website, CHAT or email  from stakeholders for the purpose of resolving issues with devices such as laptops, tablets, smart phones, and other consumer electronics.

Using various systems, applications and tools, the technician will facilitate device setup, education, and troubleshooting if a service or feature is inoperable.

Technician will educate customers about device capabilities.

The technician will log all customer data, including contact information, problem statement and resolution in appropriate tools, provide feedback to the organization on customer issues and may participate in focus groups to review and rate tools provided.

District paid health and dental insurance.

Starting salary begins at $17.92 per hour after training.

 (Additional consideration may be given for education and experience  beyond the minimum stated above.)

Technology Assistants

Grand Island Senior High, Gates, Wasmer & Shoemaker Elementary Schools

8 hours per day/10 Month Positions

The Technology Assistant plays an integral role in assisting the building administration, and district IT staff by providing support to the technology needs of students and staff; troubleshooting, updating and maintaining computers and related equipment;and assisting with the workload of the media center, lab and other technology based equipment at the school site.

Wage is $12.89 per hour after the training period.

Bilingual Paraeducators

Barr Middle School, West Lawn Elementary

7.5 hours per day/9 month positions

8 hours per day/9 month position for West Lawn

Must have bilingual experience and be able to accurately translate verbal and written communications for students and parents.

 A high school diploma or GED is required.

Computer skills are preferred.

The wage is $13.04 per hour after training period.

Lunchroom Monitor

Shoemaker Elementary 

3 hours per day/9 month position

 Supervise students in the lunchroom and/or on the playground.

A high school diploma or GED required.

Wage after training is $12.30 per hour.

Bilingual Preschool Paraeducator

O'Connor Learning Center

4 hours per day (11:45 am-3:45 pm)/9 month position

CDA/Child Development Certification or Associates Degree is preferred as well as experience working with young children.

A high school diploma is required.

This is a Bilingual (Spanish/English) position.

Wage after training is $13.04 per hour.

NS Assistant Manager

Child Nutrition Center 


8 hours per day (6:00 am-2:00 pm)/10 month position

Responsible for assisting in all aspects of production, receiving, sanitation and distribution for a large centralized kitchen serving up to 9,000 students.

Provides supervision and support for all Child Nutrition Center employees.

A minimum of three years school nutrition or institutional food service experience is desired.

Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.

Wage is $13.04 per hour after the training period.

Preschool Paraeducators

8 hours per day (7:30 am-4:00 pm)/9 month positions

CDA/Child Development Certification or Associates Degree is preferred as well as experience working with young children.

Skills Academy Paraprofessionals

Dodge Elementary, Westridge Middle School & Wyandotte Learning Center 

7.5 hours per day/9 month positions

The Skills Academy program is designed to provide support and instruction for students with Emotional/Behavior Disorders with the goal of reintegrating the student back into the general education setting.

A High School diploma or GED is required.

Wage will be $14.59 per hour after training period.

Experience working with students having disabilities is desired.

An associates degree is preferred.

Family Liaison (Arabic/Somali)

Kneale Administration Building

8 hours per day/12 month position

The Family Liaison provides vital support services and interpretation in Arabic and/or Somali for students and families.

This position serves as a liaison between students, parents, schools, and community agencies to address educational and social-emotional needs of immigrant and refugee students and families.

Must have strong communication skills in English, Arabic and/or Somali and be able to accurately translate verbal and written communications for the district and schools as well as for staff, students and parents.

Computer skills are required.

Must be willing to participate in home visits.

The position requires flexible scheduling to work outside of school hours, when necessary.

District paid health and dental insurance.

New wage is $13.04 per hour after the training period.

Certified Interpreters for the Deaf and Substitute Interpreters

Various Schools

7.5 hours per day/9 month positions

This position will work with students who are hearing impaired.

A high school diploma is required.

An Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) of 4.0 or greater is preferred.

If not yet certified, willingness to work towards a 4.0 EIPA is required.

Wage is contingent on level of EIPA.
