Grand Island Public Schools has an ongoing need for Special Education Paraeducator Substitutes, Nutrition Services Substitutes, Custodian Substitutes and Nurse Substitutes.

Migrant Community Liaison

Kneale Administration Building

8 hours per day/ 12 month position

Requires flexible scheduling to work evenings or weekends as necessary.

The Migrant Community Liaison provides support services and educational experiences for migrant-qualified children and families addressing their special educational needs to succeed academically.

The liaison will be responsible for the service delivery strategies outlined by the GIPS Migrant Education Program in the areas of school readiness, services to Out-of-School Youth (OSY), and parent/family engagement.

High School Diploma, with preference given to individuals with bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Work.

Fluent Bilingualism: English and (Spanish, Arabic or Nuer)

The wage is $17.08 per hour after training period.

Classroom Paraeducator

Engleman Elementary

7.5 hours per day/9 month position

Assist teachers with instructional support as needed.

A high school diploma or GED required. 

Wage after training is $10.59 per hour.

Skills Academy Paraprofessional

Dodge, Westridge or Success Academy

7.5 hours per day/9 month position

The Skills Academy program is designed to provide support and instruction for students with Emotional/Behavior Disorders with the goal of reintegrating the student back into the general education setting.

Associates Degree is preferred.

A High School diploma or GED is required, as well as experience working with students having disabilities.

Wage will be $13.67 per hour after training period.

Position closes 4:30 pm December 20, 2018. 


Lunchroom Monitor

Shoemaker Elementary

3 hours per day/9 month position

Supervise students in the lunchroom and/or on the playground.

A high school diploma or GED is required.

Wage after training is $10.39 per hour.

Position closes 4:30 pm December 17, 2018. 


Bilingual Preschool Paraeducator

Early Learning Center

8 hours per day (7:30 am-4:00 pm)/9 month position

CDA/Child Development Certification or Associates Degree is preferred as well as experience working with young children.

This is a Bilingual (Spanish/English) position.

The wage is $12.10 per hour after the training period.

Preschool Paraeducators

Early Learning Center 

8 hours per day (7:30 am-4:00 pm)/9 month positions

CDA/Child Development Certification or Associates Degree is preferred as well as experience working with young children.

A high school diploma is required.

Wage after training is $11.29 per hour.

Temporary Bilingual Paraeducators

Barr & Walnut Middle Schools

7.5 hours per day

Must have bilingual experience and be able to accurately translate verbal and written communications for students and parents.

A high school diploma or GED is required.

The wage is $10.89 per hour.

Paraprofessionals

Study Tutors/Discipline Room

Westridge & Barr Middle Schools

8 hours per day/9 month positions

A Bachelor's Degree is required.

Nebraska Teaching Certificate is preferred.

Boys Town social skills knowledge (or willingness to take training) is desired.

Strong human relation skills are needed.

Wage is $13.94 per hour after the training period.

Licensed HVAC Technician

8 hours per day/12 month position

Experience with commercial & industrial HVAC/Electrical equipment and related certifications are required.

District paid health and dental insurance.

Wage up to $22.00 per hour based on experience.

Position open until filled.  


Nutrition Services Assistant

Grand Island Senior High

4 hours per day (10:00 am-2:00 pm)/9 month position

Duties include: Serving students, assisting with food prep as needed, sanitation and customer service.

The wage is $10.39 per hour after the training period.

Position open until filled.


Crossing Guard Substitutes

Duties include: Assist students before and after school with street crossing. 

Times: From approx. 7:15 am until school starts and from school dismissal until the majority of the children have left the school grounds (approx. 40 minutes).

Wage would be $22.50 per day.

Certified Interpreter for the Deaf Substitute

A Deaf Interpreter Certificate is required and experience working with students having a variety of disabilities is preferred.

High school diploma is required.

An Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or 4.0 or greater is also preferred.

Wage is contingent on level of EIPA.

Homebound Tutors

(Flexible Hours)

Will work with students K-12 in home or in school buildings.

A Nebraska teaching certificate is required. 

The wage is $18.54 per hour plus mileage.
