Theater Department

Grand Island Senior High offers a number of opportunities for students to take part in theatrical productions, both on stage and off. Students have the chance to work in acting, directing, stage crew, make-up, choreography, dancing, singing, orchestration and more.

October 29, 30, 31, November 1, 2015; GISH Auditorium

The Fall Musical is the largest production of the year. It typically involves a large cast of students. It also utilizes students and professionals who perform the music live. The make-up and stage crew also give many students an opportunity to shine. Previous Fall Musical producations have included "Fame" (2012), "Disney's Tarzan: The Stage Musical" (2013) and "The Phantom of the Opera" (2014).

THIS YEAR: "Disney's The Little Mermaid"



The One-Act Play is a competitive production. Students perform the 30-minute play at a district competition in hopes of qualifying for the state competition. Recent One-Act Play productions have included "It's Not You, It's Me" (2014).

"A Christmas Carol"

December 11, 12, 13; GISH Little Theater

The annual production of "A Christmas Carol" offers free admission and is GISH Fine Arts' holiday gift to the community. The cast includes a mix of community members and students of all ages. The returning cast is lead by George Ayoub as Scrooge and Jerry Poels as Marley. 

Winter Play

February TBA; GISH Little Theater

The Winter Play is typically a smaller cast in the more intimate setting of the GISH Little Theater. Previous Winter Play productions have included "Faith County" (2013), "Faith County 2" (2014) and "The Game's Afoot" (2015).


March TBA, Little Theater

The Spring Musical is a relatively new addition to the GISH Fine Arts season. This musical production is toned down from the fall show, but still gives a good number of students an opportunity to take the spotlight both on stage and behind the scenes. Recent Spring Musical productions have included "Little Shop of Horrors" (2013), "The Addams Family" (2014) and "Into the Woods" (2015).
