Current GISH students

During the transition, things will be abnormal for our current students at Grand Island Senior High. The entire process and all the details have yet to be ironed out, but here is a look at what we do know:

2017-2018 Juniors (GISH Class of 2019)

Current juniors will have a new schedule for their senior year. They will not live in academies but will have the A/B block schedule. At this time, it is expected as seniors they will have access to the classes they would have had access to before this change.

As seniors, they will not have any new required classes or additional credits to make up in order to graduate.

The changes due to the schedule change may disrupt expectations students may have had for their senior year. Every effort will be made to help students with needs for early release or specific classes in their schedule.

Counselors and staff will work with each individual student to ensure a successful experience.

2017-2018 sophomores (GISH Class of 2020)

As with the class ahead of them, current sophomores will have some disruption to their expectations due to a new schedule for their junior year.

These students will be enrolling in an academy for their senior year at GISH. It is not expected these students will receive the entire academy experience younger students will enjoy. However, we will work with these students so they gain as many of the benefits as possible.

We will work with these students when signing up for classes for 2018-2019 to have an eye on which academy and pathway they would likely select for their senior year. Counselors will help students select classes aligned with the pathway they will join as seniors, if possible.

Regardless, these students will not be required to fulfill all academy requirements since they will not have the full experience.

2017-2018 freshmen (GISH Class of 2021)

As with the classes ahead of them, current freshmen will also have some disruption to their expectations.

These students will be enrolling in an academy for their junior and senior years at GISH. It is not expected these students will receive the entire academy experience future students will enjoy since they will not have the year in the Academy of Freshmen Exploration. However, we will help these students so they gain as many of the benefits as possible.

We will work with these students when signing up for classes for 2018-2019 to have an eye on which academy and pathway they would likely select for their junior year. Counselors will help students select classes aligned with the pathway they will join as seniors, if possible.
