GIPS Safe Return to School Plan Updates

Starting this week Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) officially transitions to a Masks Recommended not Mandatory status within all district buildings.

The full addendum to the district Safe Return to School Plan may be found on the GIPS website HERE

Additionally, we have put together a helpful resource online as a takeaway for staff, students, and families: Safe Return to School One Sheeter. This provides a more concise, visual friendly edition of the addendum.

We also wanted to provide a few friendly reminders:

  • The official update for the district is:  “Masks Recommended not Mandatory”.

  • Masks will still be required when riding district-provided transportation of students per Federal Law.

  • We also ask you to be mindful of the latest CDC isolation protocols for confirmed positive COVID-19 cases which are in the updated plan.

We understand there may be concerns about support for those who choose to wear masks and those who don’t. Those concerns are valid and are top of mind for our leadership and teachers. We’d like to affirm, for you and our students, that we remain committed to cultivating inclusive environments within our schools.

We continue to monitor the fluid situation of the pandemic reviewing related data on a daily basis. Please note, a scenario may arise of which we may revert back to universal masking if deemed necessary or mandated by the state or local officials.

Additionally, GIPS will keep working alongside the Central District Health Department (CDHD) to help make the vaccine as accessible as possible to those who want it. We view the vaccine availability as not only important but as an opportunity to maintain masks recommended not mandatory.

As we make that transition we want to remain united — aiming future forward for each student.

There are many great things to look forward to in this new semester. We will continue to work together to keep staff and student safety at the forefront as we focus on Every Student, Every Day, A Success.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your student(s) principals or share a message through Let’s Talk.

Thank you for your continued support!
