GIPS Foundation grant to fund GISH show choir clinic

The Grand Island Public Schools Foundation awarded a $2,000 Clark W. Reese Memorial grant to the Grand Island Senior High Show Choirs to fund a special two-day clinic on December 29th and 30th. Students will have the opportunity to work with sought after professional dancer/instructor/adjudicator Danny Dwaine Wells II, to help prepare for show choir competition season which begins in January. Wells will emulate a faux show choir competition experience including choreographic adjudication and critique for the students. Using the critiques, he will “clean” the choreography of the three show choir groups ensuring the dancers move in the exact same way, at the exact same time. This grant will benefit 150 show choir students.

“Investing in these kinds of opportunities for students never gets old,” said Traci Skalberg, Executive Director of the GIPS Foundation. “This is an example of how we at the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation help donors fulfill the vision of offering students a rich educational journey with robust opportunities to prepare them to thrive and dream big. It has been our honor and privilege to help the Reese family create this legacy for Clark,” she said.

The family of Clark W. Reese has established this fund in his memory to enhance Fine Arts programs of the Grand Island Public Schools. Clark and his wife Karen enjoyed the musical and theatrical gifts of their son Ryan while he attended the Grand Island Public Schools. Clark was a dear friend of the students of Grand Island. He supported the schools of this community by serving as a "Band Dad," a "Stage Dad," and as a board member of the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation. He and Karen believe in giving students the gift of educational opportunity.
