COVID-19 vaccine to be administered to portion of GIPS staff

On Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, every staff member at Grand Island Senior High School, the Indra House and the Success Academy who requested to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the voluntary GIPS COVID-19 vaccination program will receive their first dose.

The vaccines will be administered beginning at 8 a.m. in the West Gym. The decision was made to provide the vaccine to these staff members because of the volume of students served and the higher transmissibility of the student body.

“Our priority is and has always been safety,” said GIPS Superintendent Dr. Tawana Grover. “This represents another step taken by the district — with the assistance of the Central District Health Department — to ensure our staff is provided every resource necessary during the pandemic and beyond. We thank CDHD for its assistance in keeping our community as safe as it can be.”

“We are fortunate to have such a strong community collaboration," CDHD Health Director Teresa Anderson said. “We are deep in this pandemic and we have learned that we do our best work when we all work together. We are determined to keep our schools open through May and we will work with our school communities to make this a reality.”
