GIPS families have choice to switch from virtual or on-site

In the Reimagined Model of reopening at Grand Island Public Schools, the district provided families with the choice to enroll in on-site or virtual instruction. GIPS asked that elementary and middle school students remain with that choice through the first trimester and high school students through the first semester.

As previously promised, GIPS will offer the opportunity to request a change in enrollment at the identified break.  This move will be for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

“We are proud that we were able to give our families the opportunity for virtual learning this year,” Superintendent Dr. Tawana Grover said. “Now, we are fulfilling our promise to allow families to switch from virtual or on-site instruction. Thank you to our families for continuing to partner with us to keep our students learning.”

Enrollment requests for K-8 students will close on Sept. 25. GIPS will attempt to honor all requests. However, decisions have to be made based on space and staffing levels at each building. The transition date for the change in enrollment will start on the first day of the second trimester, Nov. 9.

Families may contact their current principal for more information on how to access the enrollment link.

An enrollment link will be available Oct. 12 for Grand Island Senior High students with a closing date of Nov. 2. Parents will be notified of the transition process prior to December 18. The first day of the second semester begins Jan. 5.
