JROTC team qualifies for national Academic Bowl

The Grand Island Senior High Air Force Junior ROTC unit is 1 of 16 selected (out of 896 total Air Force units nationwide) to travel to Washington, D.C. this summer to compete as a finalist in the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl. The Secretary of the Air Force and the Air Force Chief of Staff will greet these cadets in D.C. in June.

The winning cadets were made aware of their accomplishment during a surprise announcement at Senior High Monday afternoon.

The team has four members and two alternates. Only the four team members are allowed to travel to Washington, D.C. The four members are Alec Paul, Maggie Bourland, Alex Miller and Jennifer Martinez; the backups are Quincy Thompson and Ethan Province.

The GISH cadets will compete against the other 15 Air Force JROTC teams. The winning Air Force team will then compete against the other branches in the Joint Service Academic Bowl Championship.
