‘Dancing with the Starrs’ to benefit elementary playground and equipment

Starr Elementary is organizing the third annual Dancing with the Starrs event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, in the Grand Island Senior High West Gym.

Each grade level does a dance and the audience votes for the best dance. Each vote is a dollar, but admission to the event is free. The winning classroom will receive a trophy. The money will be split between Stolley Park Elementary for their playground and Starr for playground balls and equipment. While the votes are counted, teachers provide entertainment.

Deanna Rundle, fourth grade teacher at Starr, organizes the event. She said the first year of the event, money was raised for Starr’s current playground. During the second year, money was used for Starr’s sound equipment and the new Stolley Park Elementary playground equipment.

“This is a really fun event that involves the whole school,” Rundle said. “From students dancing to teachers counting money, everyone is involved and working toward the common goal.”
