Cheerleaders hosting Goodwill drive for Memorial Stadium project

The cheerleaders of Grand Island Senior High want to do their part to help with the Memorial Stadium renovation project.

They will host a Goodwill drive November 15-21, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. A trailer will be parked on College Street by the high school during the drive, so people wishing to donate items can come during the allotted times. Virtually anything in your home or garage that you no longer use is accepted. Clothing, household items, shoes, boots, purses, belts, hats, books, computers, printers, monitors and computer accessories can be placed inside the Goodwill trailer. Due to limited storage space, furniture, television and large appliances are not accepted.

GISH Cheer coach Alicia Lechner said the team wanted to do something that will help the renovation project, and impact the community.

“Memorial Stadium is a community asset and we like to support our community, so we wanted to do our part in contributing to the renovation project. Hosting this Goodwill drive will not only benefit the efforts of the stadium campaign, but will also help those in need by giving to the Goodwill,” Lechner said. “Instead of asking people to give a monetary donation this gives them the opportunity to still assist in the fundraising efforts without opening up their checkbook.”

Lechner said with the dates of the drive being right before Thanksgiving, the team is hoping people will be in the giving spirit and help them fill the trailer.

“Goodwill pays per pound of the donated items to the host group. So whatever we get paid will go to the stadium,” Lechner said.
