UNDRground Comtemporary Arts gallery to feature Colorado artist Teal Waibel

The new installation at the UNDRground Contemporary Arts gallery will be, quite literally, electric.

Colorado-based artist Teal Waibel will display her work “Electricity 2018” based on the idea of electricity and how her grandfather was a welder at the power plant south of Grand Island.

“My grandfather was one of the workers who welded pipes,” Waibel said. “My family has always taken pride that he had a part in bringing electricity to the people of the town.”

Waibel said even though she has strong opinions about the environment, she doesn’t view her show as a criticism on coal power.

“It’s more matter of fact that in 2018 this is still the way we do things,” Waibel said.

The show will begin Friday, Nov. 2 with a reception from 7-9 p.m. The show will run through December 29. Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The UNDRground Contemporary Arts gallery is located at 103 West Third Street in Grand Island. For more information about the gallery, visit undrgroundcontemporaryarts.com.
