GIPS is pleased to announce two proven district leaders will be taking on new roles in GIPS!

Beginning this summer, Ms. Sheree Stockwell will serve as an Assistant Principal at Barr Middle School and Ms. Kate Crowe will serve as the new Principal of Jefferson Elementary. We are excited to have these ladies step into expanded roles within the district as they continue advocating for students, staff, and families!

Venturing back to Middle School is familiar to Ms. Stockwell as she served as a Barr A.P. from 2013-2017. Most recently, she has been serving as Principal for Jefferson Elementary since 2017. During her Jefferson tenure, she earned recognition as the Nebraska Association of Elementary School Principals’ “Outstanding New Principal of the Year” award.

While fond of her time at Jefferson, Ms. Stockwell felt the time was right for her to step back into the work of celebrating Middle School students:

“I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had to work at both elementary and middle school levels. I enjoy leading during transitions, which is what drew me to Jefferson and now draws me back to Barr as they start the new middle school design. Grand Island Public Schools has worked hard to create great learning environments and to be a place where students thrive. I am looking forward to continuing those efforts with the Barr community."

Excited to be returning to serving elementary students and staff, Ms. Kate Crowe is set to join Jefferson as the new Principal.  Ms. Crowe has been with GIPS for 14 years, serving most recently as an Assistant Principal at Barr Middle School this year. Prior to that, she served as District Assessment Coordinator and Title 1 School Improvement Coordinator for the last five years.  Prior, she served as a 4th Grade Teacher at Dodge Elementary and Instructional Coach at Knickrehm.

Looking towards her new opportunity, Crowe shared:

“I am tremendously excited to return to my elementary roots in this new role at GIPS. I look forward to the privilege of supporting students, staff, and families as a part of the Jefferson community.”

Both Ms. Stockwell and Ms. Crowe will assume their new roles at the end of the current school year this summer.

Mr. Matt Fisher, GIPS Superintendent, affirmed the moves:

“We appreciate both of these ladies recognizing these opportunities to make a change in their job assignment.  Both are moving to areas where they have experience and we believe they will provide strong leadership in those roles.”

We are excited to see what the future brings for Ms. Stockwell at Barr and Ms. Crowe at Jefferson!
