Welcome Back!

There is nothing more exciting than the beginning of a new school year. There is hope and promise that comes with the crisp cool morning air and new school supplies. What a great beginning to the school year we have had. Our staff is excited to have the kids back in the building and I hope your kids are excited about being back, and are getting re-adjusted to their school-time routines. Walnut will be returning to a monthly newsletter which will be mailed home, after having tried weekly updates sent home with students each Friday. If you are ever in need of information, remember we are on-line 24 hours a day at http://www.gips.org/walnut. Our website will have the most current happenings at Walnut. We have several new changes in procedures that we will be sharing with you throughout the year. We want to thank you in advance for supporting these procedures aimed at improving student safety.
Thank you for the opportunity to educate your students. If there is anything we can do to assist you, please feel free to contact us.

New Pick-Up Procedures

You may have noticed that there are some new markings in the Walnut parking lot. As a staff we are always looking at ways to help keep our students safe. With that desire in mind, we would like to share our new pick-up procedures with you.

7th and 8th Grade students will be dismissed from the main (south) entrance. 6th Grade students will be dismissed from the Custer Ave. (east) entrance. 6th grade students must wait in, and be picked up in the east lot.
Students who are walking home should begin walking home after they exit the building.
Both sides of the main drive are now marked as no parking. Please no parking or waiting at the curbs. If you need to wait for your student, please find a parking spot in the lot.
A yellow line now divides the drive into two lanes. Please do not cross the yellow line, and follow your lane all the way through the drive.
A white line near the flagpole designates the pick-up area. All students waiting for a ride must wait at the front of the building. The sidewalk area is designated for students walking home.
All students not picked up by 3:50 will be required to move to a supervised area inside the building. If you arrive after 3:50, you will need to come into the building to check your student out.

Hopefully these procedures will provide for a safe and quick pickup for all. Also be aware that Walnut will be receiving a new driveway which will connect at 15th and Custer. We will be providing construction updates on the website once the construction begins.
