Walnut students were asked to take an anonymous survey on their internet usage. Here are the results of Walnut students.


    68% have internet access at home
    54% that do not have access at home do have access from other sources

    3% said they talk to people they don't know on the internet all the time
    5% said they talk to people they don't know on the internet very often
    13% talk to people they don't know on the internet sometimes
    21% talk to people they don't know on the internet not very often
    57% never talk to people they don't know on the internet

    8% said that someone onlline has asked to meet them
    7% said that they had a scary online experience or one that made them uncomfortable
    34% have met someone online via e-mail, instant messenger, chat room, etc in person  

    Here are just a few of the comments Walnut students had concerning scary online experiences:
    "Somebody threatened to beat me up.""It was freaky. But I can deal. I don't give out random information to people I don't know."

    "People have asked me in the past to exchange nudes. I blocked and deleted the contact."
    "Some guy tried to meet me in person that was way older than me."
    "They kept asking me were I lived."
    "People have asked me in the past to exchange nudes. I blocked and deleted the contact."

    34% say their parents always know what they are doing on the computer
    48% say their parents sometimes know what they are doing.
    17% say their parents never know what they are doing.
