Writing

All students at Stolley Park Elementary will improve written communication skills.

Rationale and Supporting Data

The goal was initially established in the year 2000 based on the ITBS scores for grades 3-5.  Upon review, we feel that GIPS district writing assessments and the 4th grade state writing assessments are more accurate indicators of our students writing abilities.  While gains in the area of writing are present, the Stolley Park staff believe it is vital to continue to develop and challenge our students as writers, especially in the area of organization.  The emphasis in written communication across the curriculum continues to drive our improvement goals.

Improvement Strategies

  • Use the writing process.
  • Use 6 Trait Writing emphasizing “organization”.
