Reading
All students at Stolley Park Elementary will improve reading comprehension.
Rationale and Supporting Data
Stolley Park Elementary has had Guided Reading as a focus since 1998. The staff will continue to implement guided reading with an emphasis in comprehension. ITBS and district assessment scores indicate a decrease in students’ reading comprehension and a more direct focus is needed on comprehension skills. Staff will also implement strategies that allow students to be fully engaged in reading, which will develop readers that enjoy reading and use reading skills independently.
Improvement Strategies
- Use comprehension strategies to improve academic achievement.
