Nutrition Services News

The end of the school year is almost here! There are several things that parents and guardians should know regarding their child's meal account.
First, any positive balance left over at the end of the year will automatically roll over to the next year's account balance. Refunds will be provided by request only. Even if your child will be attending a different school next year, the balance will remain in the account and follow the student at his or her new school. The only exception would be if a student would transfer out of the district, such as to Northwest or Central Catholic. A refund will need to be requested in writing.

If a refund is given, our general rule of thumb is that we provide a cash refund if the amount is $10.00 or less, unless the parent makes special arrangements with the cashier at the school. Amounts over $10.00 will be paid by check and will be mailed to households after the June School Board meeting.
Also, NO CHARGING OF MEALS WILL BE ALLOWED IN MAY. If your child's account is negative and you are unable to arrange for payment on account, please make alternate arrangements, such as sending a lunch from home, for your child's lunch.

Free and Reduced Meal applications will be mailed to all households in mid-July. Please remember that A NEW FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED EVERY YEAR.
Summer is a time for kids to relax and have some fun! But kids still need a healthy meal each day to grow and play, so remember that Grand Island Public Schools will be operating the Summer Food Service Program! Lunch will be served at NO COST for kids at the following locations from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m: Lincoln Elementary, Dodge Elementary, Howard Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Wasmer Elementary, Knickrehm Elementary, Starr Elementary, and Walnut Middle School. Children from ages 1-18 are welcome and adults may purchase a meal for $2.75. This program begins Tuesday, May 27th and operates through Friday, July 25th. Please call Nutrition Services at 385-5900 for more information.

 Parking Lot

When picking up and dropping off students, please pull to the South end of the zone. This allows three cars to pick-up or drop off at the same time and prevents long waits. The traffic needs to flow to prevent back-up on the city streets.
Please use caution when walking students across the parking lot. It is difficult for vehicles to see students when they are backing out of the parking places.
