Arrasmith Planetarium
ARRASMITH PLANETARIUM FACTS
The Arrasmith Planetarium is one of two high school planetariums in the state. It is now 38 years old and has a 30' wide dome. It is a very unique place for all students. It is frequently visited by grade school students and scouts. Students from all three high school in Grand Island take astrophysics and astronomy here.
After the school board toured the planetarium, they asked the foundation to raise money for 65 new seats, updated lighting and sound system, and media equipment.
To date $40,000 has been raised, and $13,171 is left.
A donor plaque is outside the Planetarium and will need a companion plaque to purchase the last piece of equipment. . .a digital star projector.
DID YOU KNOW?
* The Arrasmith Planetarium is only one of two high school planetariums in the state.
* It was 38 years old on November 12.
* 65 new seats have been installed and paid for.
* the Planetarium has received three coats of new paint and new carpet thanks to the Grand Island Public Schools maintenance crew.
* New sound system, lighting, and media equipment has been paid for.
* The Star Show Projection Unit is also 38 years old.
* $288,000 is needed for a new digital projector that would finish the renovation.
* The Astronomy Club is working to complete a DVD presentation covering the entire history of the universe.
WHAT WE NEED!
* A new star show projection unit
* 1,000 astronomy lovers to give $100
* 500 astronomy lovers to graciously give $500
Once the new projector is purchased, computerized star shows would then be made by students to educate and entertain the whole school system.
A new star projector would add a totally new dimension to this first-rate planetarium.
