Seedling Mile Elementary School
Reading Goal, Rationale, and Strategies

Reading Improvement Goal: By May of 2019, 85% of Seedling Mile Elementary students will be reading at or above grade level as measured by the Lexile Proficiency bands, district formative assessments, Nebraska State Assessments and supported by research and best practice.
Rationale and Supporting Data (3 sources used to select the goal):
Improvement Strategies and Interventions:
1. Use Guided Reading processes and components integrated with the use of Daily 5 to support reading comprehension and fluency.
2. Improve the craft of writing through mentor text, modeling, conferencing and feedback.
3. Utilize literacy (reading and writing) as a vehicle for students to generate meaning from their learning in all curricular areas.

Climate Goal, Rationale, and Strategies

Climate Improvement Goal: All members of the Seedling Mile school community will engage in building relationships, communicating expectations and treating themselves and others with dignity and respect to create a positive learning environment as measured by surveys and positive communication.

Improvement Strategies and Interventions:
1. Implement proactive classroom management strategies.
2. Create an environment for learning by establishing positive relationships with students that engage and motivate them.
3. Empower each stakeholder to be safe, respectful and responsible.

Problem Solving Goal, Rationale, and Strategies

Problem Solving Improvement Goal: By May of 2019, 85 percent of Seedling MIle students will demonstrate, solve and apply the use of problem solving skills in mathematics at or above grade level as measured by the MAP, CPAA, district formative assessments, Nebraska State Assessments and supported by research and best practice.

Improvement Strategies and Interventions:
1. Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate, solve and apply problem solving skills in a variety of ways.
2. Improve problem solving skills through the use of modeling, conferencing and feedback.
3. Build math fluency of basic facts to increase problem solving accuracy.
4. Provide opportunities for students to create, interpret, and analyze a variety of data.
