Students learn judicial process in real courtroom

Ally may have been a good girl, but she was guilty of possessing one pound of marijuana.

That was the conclusion of High Ability Learner (HAL) students who were part of a mock trial conducted Friday morning in Hall County District Judge Teresa Luther's courtroom.

Students from Barr, Walnut and Westridge middle schools all had roles to play in the judicial process, ranging from defendant to prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, witnesses, bailiff and jury.

The only role not taken by a student was that of district court judge. Luther was allowed to keep that role for herself as part of the mock trial designed to teach students about the judicial process.  Full Story
