"The students will be given opportunities to have first-hand learning experiences about various aspects of the Civil War," Koch said.
Walnut's eight-graders will be divided into four groups and will rotate among four stations for different experiences. One group will experience marching and drills. Another group will discover what life was like in a camp. The third group will observe a medical/doctors' tent. The fourth group will learn about artillery and how to fire a cannon.
At the conclusion of the activities, the re-enactors will fire a cannon, Koch said.

Walnut Middle School is hosting Civil War re-enactors on Friday, April 25, said American studies teacher Tom Koch.The event will be from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on a field southwest of the school at 1600 N. Custer Ave.
