Knickrehm student wins state Poison Prevention poster contest

Cornelio Jaimes, a student at Knickrehm Elementary School, has won first place in the ages 9-13 division of the Nebraska Poison Prevention Poster Contest.

Jessica Anguiano, also a fifth-grader at Knickrehm, finished second in the contest in that division. The purpose of the contest is to identify posters that can be used to educate the public about ways to prevent accidental poisonings.

Diane Meyer is the students' teacher. James' poster and several of his classmates' posters have been entered in the American Association of Poison Control Centers poster contest.

Jaimes' poster says, "Don't play with your life. Lock up poisons." Drawings of a board game and poisonous substances are on the poster.

The Nebraska Regional Poison Center in Omaha, Safe Kids Tri-Cities, and the Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation sponsor the contest, which also has a division for children ages 8 and under.
