Maupin also has been a member of the Hastings Symphony Orchestra for more than 40 years, a member of the Hastings Symphony String Quartet, and was the founder and conductor of the Tri-City Youth Symphony for 25 years. He was instrumental in bringing Public Radio to this part of Nebraska in 1990.
Maupin was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, said Christa Speed, orchestra director at Grand Island Senior High School.
Performers at the concert will include former students and colleagues with whom Maupin has performed over the years.
"Maupin has had a great impact on their lives, and this is the musicians' way to giving a little something back to him," Speed said.
Some of the groups and musicians scheduled to perform are the Grand Island Senior High School orchestra; Terry, Christa, and Anna Speed; Morris and Aleta Collier; Dottie Ladman; Cindy Brosman; Deb Johnson; Mischa Johnson; Marla Rischling; Pam and Tim Smith; Louis Eckhardt; Erin Beave; Mark LaChance; Shannon Salyards; and the Trinity United Methodist Church Choir.
Donations may be made at the concert to help defray the cost of Maupin's medical expenses, Speed said. Donations may also be made to the Larry Maupin Fund at Five Points Bank North, 2015 N. Broadwell, Grand Island, NE, 68803, Attention: Deb Lukes.
