Dealing with Challenged Materials
See district policy 9110.

When faced with challenged materials concerns, do the following.
  • Respond with “We take your concern seriously.”
  • Provide the complaint with the district form for “Request for Reconsideration of Instructional/Media Center Materials.”
  • Inform the district media director and the building administrator who will inform the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.
  • The building administrator will acknowledge the receipt of the complaint and inform the complainant of the procedure.
  • The Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning will activate a committee to evaluate material.
  • The challenged material will be kept on the shelf until such time as a decision is made.
  • After reconsideration, the complainant and the integration specialist will be informed of the final outcome.
