First Grade News

Wow, the year is winding down!  All the first graders have worked so hard this year and have accomplished so much.  They are all writing stories, letters, poems and reading up a storm.  Second Grade, here they come!  Math has been fun this year.  We finished learning about 3-dimensional objects and are always working on addition and subtraction facts.  Please practice these with your child at home.

The first graders did some hands on activities with solids and liquids.  They know the properties of each and could tell you what items around them are solids and liquids.  Continue to help your child use their five senses to observe the world around them.  We talked about the basics of maps in Social Studies.  They know the importance of North, South, East, and West.

Our community service project was a big success.  Thank you to all of you who helped with recycling cans for the Humane Society.  We raised over $90 and were able to present it to the Humane Society.  They greatly appreciated it!

This will be our last tooth report from the 2007-08 lst graders:  Mrs. Elsbury’s class:  Katelyn, Marc, Bradley (2), Carlos, Login (2), Lexi (2) and Blake.  Mrs. Griess’s class:  Hannah, Whitney, Makaela, and Deng.  Ms. Ottersberg’s class:  Hudson, Cristian, and Sydney.

Last of all, we want to thank you for a wonderful year.  We had a lot of fun with the first graders.  They will make great 2nd graders.  Have a super summer full of family, friends, and fun.  Summer can get busy, but please continue to work with your child in reading, writing, and math.  Ms. Ottersberg and Mrs. Elsbury would also like to thank Mrs. Griess for all her hard work and dedication.  Good luck next year Mrs. Griess.
