NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
GREETING PARENTS and STUDENTS
HI, Newell families and friends! As we cool down from the Summer heat, I would like to take this time to bring you up to date on happenings at Newell Elementary.
We have new faces teaching students this year. They are as follows:
Mrs. Hayley Dubbs ~ Kindergarten
Ms. Amy Schreiber ~ 1st Grade
Mrs. Ashley Splattstoesser ~ 3rd Grade
Mr. Clint Cunningham ~ 4th Grade
Ms. Julie Barker ~ Resource
Ms. Konni Shipman ~ ELA
Mrs. Casie Olsen ~ School Psychologist
Our staff has worked hard to improve student learning the past five years. The data shows student achievement has continued to increase at Newell and we have celebrated the success with students! Students are improving their reading, writing, and math performances as our expectation of student learning remain high. Students understand we ask them to come to school ready to learn and have fun! In order for our students to be successful, we need the continued support of parents. Your support of academics and social events throughout the school year are vital to the success of your child’s learning.
We will continue to communicate with parents through weekly Ed Connect and e-mail messages. These communication avenues assist with the daily information that your child brings home through student planners and notes. We also encourage phone calls between parents and teachers throughout the school year to discuss student’s successes and areas of improvement. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call.
K-5 students should be dropped off in the morning on the east side of the building. All students will enter the north gym door and be seated in the gym or go to the cafeteria for breakfast. The north gym door and the main west doors will be open at 7:15 a.m.
TRAFFIC FLOW AT NEWELL
Because of the traffic congestion after school, please meet your child on the asphalt or grass and walk them to your car if you park on the east side of the building facing north. If you park on the west side of the building facing south, we would like you to do the same. A major concern is the potential blind spots between traffic! Parents, PLEASE MEET YOUR CHILDREN BEFORE THEY CROSS THE STREET. If you decide to park in the west parking lot after school, please exude patience as traffic may keep you from leaving promptly We would like you to avoid parking in the handicapped spaces if at all possible. Above all, use common sense, and please be aware of your surroundings during dropping-off and picking-up of children. THANK YOU.
CONNECT ED PHONE CALLS
Sometimes when you receive an automated call from the school, the message may start in the middle or the message may be cut off before it is completed. The system is calibrated to detect what is an answering machine and what is a live person. Sometimes, usually due to ambient noise in the background or a bad phone line connection, the system identifies an answering machine or live person incorrectly. The director of Connect Ed assures us they will continue to tweak the system to get rid of the problems. Please call the school if you didn’t receive the entire message.
