AMELIA EARHART’S
FIRST BIPLANE

KINNER AIRPLANE NAMED “THE CANARY”

Amelia wore goggles because the biplane had an open cockpit.  The goggles protected her against wind & bugs.
In this biplane, she broke the women’s altitude record of 14,000 feet on October 1922.

Other interesting information that we found out about Amelia Earhart:

Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24, 1897.
When she was 7, she made her own roller coaster using fence rails and a pair of roller skates.
When she  was 11, she saw her first airplane
One time she flew into a storm and fell 3,000 feet but she was ok.
Amelia nursed wounded men in war.  After she became famous, she would do speeches.  In the speeches, she spoke against war and for the rights of women.
In 1932, she became the first woman pilot to cross the Atlantic.

How We Made the Biplane

First, we got a piece of cardboard and made 3 inch squares on it. We drew half centimeters squares on a model that gave us the idea. We made the squares on the cardboard bigger so the biplane would be bigger.
Then we drew the parts that were on the model onto the cardboard, using the squares to help. Then after we made the parts, we cut them out.
We put the little model together first and then we put the big model together.
Then we started painting.  We painted it yellow because that was the color of Amelia Earhart’s plane.  Her car was also yellow.  We think that was her favorite color!
