Resetting Directory Access

For computers that are coming up to a blue screen or that is coming up with a short list.  (Admin and Other as only choice)

Log into the computer as admin.
Open Netinfo (black i on Dock). If it isn't on the dock, it is inside Applications/Utilities. Drag it to the Dock

Once Netinfo is open, you will have to authenticate by clicking on the lock in the left corner. Use admin and your building password.

Highlight and delete mcx cache. Click delete in the top menu, the delete key on your keyboard will not work.

Highlight Config, you will bring up another mcx cache, delete that mcx cache also.
Quit out of Net Info

Open the Macintosh HD/Library/Caches. Do a select all and drag the contents of the Caches folder to the trash, but do not delete the folder itself.

Close the Caches folder.

Still inside Library, locate the Preferences folder and open

Locate a folder called Directory Service. Drag the entire Directory Service folder (not the Preference folder) to the trash.

Close windows and restart the computer.

It will come up with Administrator and any local account as your only choice.

Log in as Admin. Empty the trash

Open Directory Access, (looks like a compass with a book). Again, if it isn't on your Dock it is inside Applications/Utilities. Drag it out to the Dock.

Open Directory Access and uncheck everything except AppleTalk, Bonjour and LDAP.

Highlight LDAP and click on Configure.

Uncheck the very top box (Add DHCP....), click on Show Options, click on New.

In the next window, on the very left, click on Manual.

Type in your building short name for example, newmmx, for Newell.   Tab over and type in newmmx.gips.org then click OK. (case sensitive here)
Click on Authentication, drag down Search to Custom Path and click on Add. Highlight the newmmx.gips.org, click on Add again.

Say OK, quit out of Directory Access and restart your machine.
As you are restarting, zap the PRAM for 2-3 times. (option, apple, p and r )

Then let it start up and you should have your list of users. It sounds like a lot of steps, but once you do it a time or two, it isn't so intimidating :)
