Library Lion

Library Lion Book Project Possibilities:

Verbal/Linguistic

Write a story from the viewpoint of the lion about why he comes to library that includes his experiences there.

Visual/Spatial

Choose a library rule that is used in your school library.  Use AppleWorks paint or MediaBlender to create an illustration of this rule.  Several students can work together and bind rules into a book to share with primary students.

Create rules for something that you are learning.  Use a small stuffed animal to help illustrate the rules and write a story to illustrate the  new rules.  Example: rules for using a digital camera in the classroom.  Take several pictures to illustrate the story.  Create the book using iPhoto or ComicLife.

Logical/Mathematical

Count the books in a one-foot part of the easy fiction section of your school library.  Do this three times and average the result.  Measure how many feet of books are contained in the easy fiction section, and see if you can estimate how many books there are total in the easy fiction section.

Use Alexandria and make a list of all the fiction books and a list of all the nonfiction books about lions in your school library.

Naturalist

Use the Animal Concept Map template in Kidspiration to create a graphic organizer about lions.  Use that organizer and Comic Life or Pages to create a fact sheet about lions.  You can use Nettrekker, or books in your library to look for information.

Musical

Use a common tune like Farmer in the Dell, or Old McDonald.  Write new words to the music that teach library manners.  Have students teach it to members in ther class.

Bodily/Kinesthetic

Play charades and act out some of the library rules.

Intrapersonal

Think about how you use the library.  What would you do if there were no libraries?  Why do you think they were established?  Write a paragraph explaining why you think libraries are good, and another explaining what could be improved about either your school library or the city library.

Interpersonal

Interview either the integration specialist or the tech assistant in your building.  Find out about the rules in your school library, what they are and how one would be added or changed if needed.  Be an advocate for use of shelf markers.  Offer to help a kindergarden class learn to use their markers more effeciently.
