Whittington
Whittington Student Project Possibilities:
Verbal/Linguistic
Read 3 fables. Compare and contrast elements of each, including characters, setting, and moral. Describe how each moral can be applied in your own life, either to a real life situation from your past, or how it can be realistically applied to a situation in your future.
Visual/Spatial
Study the layout of a medieval castle. Build a model that show the essential loctions and structures within. Label each part and include a short description of the purpose of each.
Logical/Mathematical
Construct a timeline that includes 6-8 major events in Dick Whittington's life. Include a paragraph that summarizes each event and tells how that event helped shape his life.
Naturalist
Research 4 herbs used in natural healing. Answer these questions:
What plant does it come from?
In what part of the world is it found?
What does it heal? How is it used?
What are advantages and disadvantages of these natural remedies versus manufactured medicine available today?
Which would you take and why?
Musical
Identify 4-5 musical instruments used in the Middle Ages. Compose a 60-90 second piece of music with Garageband using instrument loops similar to those from the Middle Ages (or you use instruments to import your own). The piece of music should reflect an event from the book (examples: music that reflects when Dick first saw his cat, or when he arrived in London).
Bodily/Kinesthetic
Choose a section from the book where a new animal comes to live in the barn. Reenact this scene, using people in place of animals. Write a short character sketch for each character/animal that includes their physical traits, as well as their emotional and personality traits.
Intrapersonal
Where do you see yourself in your life 15 years from now? Be realistic. Journal the steps you would follow to reach this goal. What resource do you need? What contacts might you need to make? What difficult choices might you face as you reach to achieve this goal?
Interpersonal
Interview your school counselor, your principal, a teacher, and a friend. Write a list of questions and ask them the same questons about bullying and get advice on how kids can cope with it. Using iMovie, create a 30-60 second commercial that shows what kids can do if they are bullied.
