Illustration and Summary
The "gist" of something is the main idea. You do not need to remember all of the details in order to get the "gist" of a selection. After reading the section you want to illustrate, write a sentence (or two) of no more than twenty words that captures the gist of the selection.
- Pick a section of the book and illustrate it.
- Write a short paragraph that gives you the "gist" of the story or expands the story through text-to-text, text-to-self, or text-to-world (Mosaic of Thought).
