 Strand 1: Basic Operations and Concepts

1.1 General Computer Knowledge
1.1.1 Identify simple computer parts using correct terms (e.g., mouse, keyboard, monitor, disk, printer, CD-
ROM)
1.1.2 Turn the computer on and off
1.1.3 Log into and out of the network using name and ID number
1.1.4 Launch new programs
1.1.5 Open a new or saved document
1.1.6 Save files to proper locations using "save" and "save as"
1.1.7 Choose printer
1.1.8 Print document
1.1.9 Organize files into folders
1.1.10 Use the troubleshooting process (e.g., identify problem, check obvious, note error messages, seek
assistance)
1.1.12 Use the dock to navigate between programs
1.2 Keyboarding Strategies
1.2.1 Hold and position the mouse
1.2.2 Use proper keyboard position (e.g., hand orientation, space bar, hub key, shift, return)

Strand 2: Social, Ethical, and Human Issues

2.1 Social
2.1.1 Work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, family members, and others when using technology
in the classroom
2.2 Ethics
2.2.1 Use common network courtesies (e.g., logging in using own name and password, respecting other
students' works)
2.2.2 Read and follow district network guidelines and consequences of misuse (e.g., access appropriate web
sites, report improper use, protect personal information, honor privacy of others, utilize network
resources for appropriate educational activities)
2.2.3 Practice copyright responsibilities (e.g., cite sources, obtain permission to use others' works to
refrain from plagiarism)
2.3 Human Issues
2.3.1 Use technology to promote curiosity and learning
2.3.2 Discuss uses of technology in workplace and society (e.g., advantages and disadvantages of relying on
technology)
2.3.3 Make informed choices regarding technology resources (e.g., be aware of ethical and social issues
relating to technology)

3.1 Word Processing

3.1.3 Apply editing techniques (e.g., spell check, thesaurus, find/change, copy/cut/paste)
3.1.5 Apply formatting techniques (e.g., alignment, tabs, fonts, styles, spacing)

Strand 4: Communications/Collaboration

4.3 Presentation Skills
4.3.1 Format presentation using appropriate text and images (e.g., text consists of main idea, images
enhance text, sounds and transitions support text)
4.3.2 Use effective oral communication skills (e.g., speak loudly, clearly; use gestures; maintain eye
contact; use technology only as reference point)
4.3.3 Align graphics, text, and sound with content
4.3.4 Choose appropriate software for task (e.g., iMovie, PowerPoint, MediaBlender)

6.2 Media Literacy
6.2.1 Differentiate between fact and opinion
6.2.2 Recognize propaganda and the presence of bias and prejudice
6.3 Application of Research Results
6.3.1 Analyze resources in terms of date, author, source, and point of view
6.3.2 Interpret and summarize information
6.3.3 Draw conclusion utilizing data
6.3.4 Develop product indicating results of research (e.g., simulation, report, presentation, model)
