Annual Report: Barr building stronger connections

A quick look at Barr Middle School is all it takes to see our building is under construction. Take a deeper look and you can see our staff is working on building something special as well. Barr teachers are constantly working on new and different ways of reaching our students.

Across all of Grand Island Public Schools, staff are working hard to utilize new English Language Arts and Math resources. At Barr, we have differentiated instruction groupings for our 6th grade students and fluid intervention classes in 7th grade. These allow us to challenge each individual student to achieve beyond their current level.

This is Barr’s third year of being 1-to-1 with laptops and staff continue to utilize the technology for student learning. Our students are embracing technology for all of its potential 21st Century communication and collaboration opportunities. Seventh grade students are connecting with students in Germany and comparing each other’s education processes.

Beyond the classroom, Barr staff are building relationships with our students with a number of extracurricular activities and clubs, including run club, Minecraft club, gaming club and all of our fine arts and intramural athletics.

At Barr, we are proud of our caring, competent staff who all want kids to be successful, inside the classroom and out. We are living the district’s mission of Every Student, Every Day, A Success, developing students socially, emotionally and academically.

GIPS, as a district, is made up of more than 1,500 staff members across 14 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, one high school, a preschool and various alternative campuses, all dedicated to our 9,800 students.
