Mission and Belief Statements
Every Student, Every Day, a Success
Within the School District of Grand Island,
- every student will be taught to read, write, and communicate effectively; solve problems; acquire and apply knowledge; and demonstrate mastery through performance to the best of the student's abilities;
- every student will be treated with fairness and dignity;
- every student will experience a sense of belonging, contribution, and success; and
- every student will develop responsibility and show respect for others as well as oneself.
In educating students, we teach hearts as well as minds.
Goal Statements

2006-2007 Goals:
Goal 1:
Continue to improve individual student learning opportunities and results.
Indicators:
- Improved district assessment results (80% of all students proficient on each assessment)
- Improved ITBS/ITED results (overall gain of 1.0 NCE)
- All schools meet all federal accountability (AYP) requirements
- Improved graduation rate
- Enhanced curricular and co-curricular opportunities and involvements
2. Goal:
Continue to pursue the resources needed to meet the needs and challenges of a growing school district and community.
Indicators:
- Increased funding through legislation, grants, The Grand Island Education Foundation, and procurement of state aid
- Increased student enrollment by attracting students to, and retaining students within, the district
3. Goal:
Develop a comprehensive educational plan for grades 9-12 that reflects:
- Effective and efficient delivery of an appropriate high school education for up to 2,500 students
- Improved student achievement
- Individual educational success plans for all students through innovative and effective programs
Indicators:
- Presentation of a plan by May, 2006
- Improved student learning opportunities and results (see Goal 1)
- Completed action items and timelines for plan
4. Goal:
Become regarded as a "lighthouse" school district within the region.
Indicators:
- Improved recruitment, employment and retention of quality staff
- More effective and consistent engagement with our stakeholders.
- Further implementation of innovative and exemplary educational practices and programs
- Provide national caliber professional development, with ongoing coaching and other support
- Improved student learning opportunities and results (see Goal 1)
5. Goal:
Enhance and equalize learning opportunities for all middle school students.
Indicators:
- Provide equal curricular and co-curricular opportunities for students in all three Grand Island Public Schools middle schools
- Increased student participation in co-curricular activities
- Improved student learning opportunities and results (see Goal 1)
