Introduction to Grand Island
Welcome to Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1980 we had a seven tornado
disaster. The clouds from the storm that topped at 60,000 feet,
killed five people and injured 2,100. The storm caused 140,000,000
dollars in damage to the people's property.
Grand Island,Nebraska is in the central plains of the United
States. It is by the five hundred fifty mile long Platte river in
Nebraska. Grand Island has a population of 39,437 people.
Grand Island is in the flyway of the Sandhill cranes. Around
Valentine's Day, thousands of cranes start to arrive around Grand
Island including the endangered Whooping cranes. Grand Island is also
in the central flyway of the ducks and geese in the United States.
Grand Island has many beautiful sites such as Mormon Island,
Crane Meadows, Pier Park Pond, the Court House, and much more. There
are also factories such as New Holland, Monfort, Grand Island
Accessories, Berkley Pumps, Chief Industries, Chief Automotive,
Hornady Manufacturing, Frontier Ammunition, and many more.
Grand Island's schools include fourteen elementary schools, one
middle school, two junior highs, three high schools, and one college.
