When we arrived at the field where they were harvesting we saw
the BIG combine with a corn head attached at the front. It slowly
travels through the rows of corn chopping off the corn stalk as it
goes. As the combine storage area fills up, the tractor pulls the
grain wagon along the side of the combine and the corn is augered
into the wagon. The combine travels at about 2 miles per hour down
the corn row.
The combine stopped when it reached the end of the row of
corn.
We picked an ear of corn while we waited for the combine to stop.
The corn stalk is really tall and the corn was hard to pick! I'm glad
we have combines to do the work.
