There are many differences and similarities between modern schools and 1888 country day schools. I'm going to tell you ten of them. Back then they had bathrooms but they were called privies. Instead of the words, boys and girls, there were symbols on the doors. Now, one teacher teaches one grade. Back then one teacher taught all the grades. We both have heat but back then they had wood burning stoves. Now we have furnaces. They bought their own books but now tax money does it. Today we write on paper but then they wrote on little chalkboards with chalk for math. In this picture, I am showing how they stood up to read in the old days. I had fun spending a morning back in time. |
