I'm going to tell you three ways that schools in the old days and schools now are the same and different. In 1888, they had one teacher for all grades and in schools today we have three teachers for each grade at Dodge School. In 1888, parents had to buy their children's books. Now our parents no longer have to buy books for their children. The teacher in 1888 had permission to hit the kids with a ruler if they were bad. But now if the teacher hits a kid, they lose their job. They got their heat from a wood burning stove and we get it from a furnace. The things that are the same are that they both studied the same subjects. Both have recess and eat lunch together. The rules are the same. I learned a lot, I hope I can go again. |
