At the school at the museum, we learned many things. In 1888 at that school, there were kids from 1st-8th grade. Since there were so many different ages, there were many different sizes of desks. They had dip pens to write with. They had penmanship like we do. They had chalk and a little chalkboard to do math problems. If the students messed up their books they had to buy new ones. The heat in the school came from a big stove in the middle of the room. They had to raise their hand to answer questions and read. They had to stand up to speak. They had four positions for sitting and standing. If the students came to school dirty, they had to wash their hands and comb their hair. I liked Stuhr school a lot. |
